Since the beginning of the Russo‐Ukrainian war, Western political commentators and analysts have frequently compared Vladimir Putin (b. 7 October 1952) and his policies with those of Germany’s former leader and ruler Adolf Hitler (20 April 1889 – 30 April 1945). There is nothing strange about such a comparison, bearing in mind that comparing does not mean equating or identifying them as the same. Both of these political leaders and dictators share certain common traits, but there are also differences between them, writes military historian Jüri Kotšinev.
